skip and a hop to Ghent

our last weekend B.F. (before furniture) ;) we headed to Ghent for the day. It's a charming Flemish town (Dutch speaking) that's less than an hour from Brussels. It's not as well known as Brugge or Antwerp, but it is certainly worth a visit if you're in my neck of the woods.
It boasts a true medieval castle (Castle of the Counts)  that the kids loved walking thru, complete with dungeon and ancient torture objects (yikes!), a fantastic clock tower with an automatic massive bell chime that we got to watch play (it was a like a 2 ton player piano roll), amazing views and canals, and it's crown jewel, the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb, painted by the Van Eyck brothers in 1432. It was chilly, but turned out to be blue skies most of the day, which had us all giddy!
A few pics for you to enjoy...
